According to some, this tea is the first black tea in history. Lapsang Souchong is distinguished amongst other teas by its smoky, scotchy flavor, which is achieved by smoke-drying the leaves over a pinewood fire. The unique process associated with Lapsang Souchong came about through strange circumstances. It was out of necessity that tea producers burned pine trees to dry the tea leaves. If not for happenstance, this tea may never have been created.
